Parents and Guardians,

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself to you and your family. I am Michelle Hudgens, and I am the School Counselor at Dunbar Creative and Performing Arts Magnet School. This is my 18th year at Dunbar, and my 25th year in the Mobile County Public School System. I must admit, this must be the most unusual beginning to school this year! Not only are we in a new location, we will be doing remote learning which is something new for all of us!

It is always exciting working with an amazing group of students, and I cannot wait to meet my new students; our teachers are a dynamic team who expect great things from each of you regardless! I look forward to helping you and your students succeed and meet his/her own personal goals for this school year and beyond.

Our school offers school counseling services as an additional resource to help your student succeed in their academic goals, as well as support social and emotional growth throughout the school year. Counseling sessions in a school setting are typically short-term in nature and focus on solutions to help your child succeed in all areas of his/her development.

Counseling activities can include individual or group counseling, whole class presentations and observations. Many of these activities will focus on helping students learn ways to build positive social skills, gain confidence in their ability to interact with others and learn ways to deal with problems and conflicts constructively. Large group classes will focus on career development, bullying, personal safety, and character to name a few.

Small group counseling sessions typically meet once a week for thirty minutes, at a time arranged with the teachers. Your student may be referred from a teacher, staff member or from you as a parent/guardian. To make a referral or speak with me, you may call the school or email me.
