Dr. Valerie Johnson
Welcome Dunbar School Community
Hello Dunbar Parents,
I am honored and excited to begin my work at Dunbar! I have already been so impressed by the students, faculty, and staff who have made me feel welcome.
I would like to provide you with some information about my background. I began my educational career as an elementary music teacher in 1998. I then earned my master’s degree in school counseling and have K-12 experience as a school counselor. After achieving National Board certification in 2011, I learned the importance of ensuring that both teaching and learning occur in all classrooms through reflection of the video analysis process. This was a defining moment in my career, and since then, my passion for helping every student experience academic success has strengthened. I went on to earn administrative certification and doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at the University of South Alabama and was the school principal at Semmes Elementary for five 1/2 years. I take my role as school leader seriously and work tirelessly to support all teachers in becoming experts in their content areas. I have a musical background in piano, chorus, band, and show choir, and am excited about seeing Dunbar students perform in the near future. I live in Mobile and am married with two sons and a daughter-in-law. We are an active family and love to travel, hike, and eat great food.
